US Etchells Youth Team

Introducing the third annual US Etchells Youth Team (USEYT). This opportunity was first offered in 2017 and has provided for youth sailors to race competitively in the Etchells Class. A challenge, originally issued by the Cowes, UK Etchells Fleet invited the USEYT to race for the Gertrude Cup in Cowes in July 2017. The USEYT won the Olin Stephens Trophy (presented to the top Etchells Youth team in the world) becoming the trophy’s first ever winner. In 2018 at the North American Championships the US and UK teams battled it out and the Brit’s won back the Olin Stephens trophy. This year the USEYT is headed over to the UK to bring the Stephens Trophy to the US.
Thirty-Two USEYT members have been selected from applications that came in from across the country.

Five competitive boats have been secured for the USEYT which will offer the opportunity to develop skills and teamwork in the run-up to the Cowes Challenge. This year’s rigorous schedule also includes the Etchells World Championship in Corpus Christi, TX. At these events several youth teams from around the world including Canada, Bermuda, Australia and the UK will likely be sailing.
